SLT made several strategic moves in the early 2000s that allowed the organization to greatly expand its protected footprint in the Baylands.
A Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation grant of $10 million made the purchase of the Sears Point property a reality, and was the start of a decades-long funding partnership.
This acquisition and its restoration were one of SLT’s largest restoration efforts, focused on reducing erosion, slowing waterflow, and increasing fish and wildlife habitat along Tolay Creek.
Despite headwinds from the Great Recession and development pressures, after 5 years SLT successfully completed the acquisition of the Jenner Headlands, the largest conservation acquisition in county history.
