About Sonoma Land Trust

Our mission for the lands and waters of Sonoma County
Sonoma Land Trust partners with local communities to protect the open, natural, and working lands and waters of Sonoma County to secure healthy and thriving futures for all.

For the Land
In Sonoma County, the land is the heart of our community. Since 1976, Sonoma Land Trust has worked tirelessly to protect more than 63,000 acres of natural, agricultural, and open land through partnerships with landowners, public agencies, and residents. As one of the most beautiful and biologically diverse counties in the country, our landscapes are a treasure we are privileged to celebrate, steward, and conserve—now and for future generations. Part of that privilege means addressing the realities of climate change and integrating nature-based solutions to the increasingly challenging cycle of wildfires, drought, sea level rise, and flooding in our region.
For the land, together.

OUR VISION
By 2030, Sonoma Land Trust will have protected and restored tens of thousands of acres of land to nurture resilient, adaptable habitats, and open space for everyone.

Courage
We are unwavering in our determination to fulfill our mission and overcome challenges through creativity, risk-taking, and innovation, all with a deep sense of responsibility for the future.
Collaboration
We actively listen to, learn from, and incorporate unique needs and perspectives in order to build a community of collective care and shared responsibility for nature.
Belonging
We strive to build authentic relationships, together and with our community, with mutual respect and a culture of trust, to foster a sense of belonging where people feel empowered, valued, and connected.
Integrity
We act with integrity, honesty, and openness to build a resilient, natural world for generations to come.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
We recognize that every person is connected to nature, and a healthy community relies on a healthy environment.
It takes everyone to care for nature. This approach is integral, not auxiliary, to our organization’s goals as we work together with local communities to secure healthy and thriving futures for all.
