Sharing Stories Together in Nature – The Environmental Threat of Overdevelopment
Sonoma Land Trust has a rich history of land conservation spanning 50 years. Each week we’ll read from a chapter of SLT’s history, focusing on various themes. This week we’ll focus on the environmental threats of overdevelopment in the 1970s, which spawned a conservation movement in Sonoma County. We’ll use this as a basis for reflecting on our own stories, with time to gather our thoughts and then share with the group.
We’ll meet at the Lone Tree on the Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway (south end of Albert Drive). Bring a camp chair or blanket and a sun hat.

The Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway was protected in 2024 by Ag + Open Space for recreation and preservation of its natural resources. There is no charge for this event, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.

Bring a filled water bottle, snacks/lunch, layers of clothing, sunscreen, a sun hat, a windbreaker, and good hiking shoes/boots.
Pets are not allowed on Sonoma Land Trust properties. Service animals are allowed.
Yes, you can register for more than one person. If you want to add an additional person after you’ve already registered, please email outings@sonomalandtrust.org.
Most of our outings are guided outings on privately owned property and require the group to stay together for the duration of the outing. If you are anticipating needing to leave early, please email outings@sonomalandtrust.org to see if we’ll be able to accommodate that request.
Yes! We encourage children’s participation, as long as they are willing and able to complete the physical requirements of the terrain and distance of the outing.
We occasionally offer a carpool from Santa Rosa. Please email outings@sonomalandtrust.org to inquire about a specific outing.

Most of the SLT-owned properties are open through guided access only, with the exception of Pole Mountain (when accessed through the Jenner Headlands) and Stuart Creek Run.
Most of our preserves do not have restrooms available.
