The protection of Camp 5 contributes to achieving the goals of the Sonoma Creek Baylands Strategy. The 290-acre hay farm is adjacent to the Napa Sonoma Marsh Wildlife Area (CDFW), Haire Ranch (USFWS), and Camp 4, which was recently acquired by Sonoma Land Trust. Through a partnership with NRCS, the Resource Legacy Fund, and private funders, we were able to acquire Camp 5 to begin restoration of the diked farmlands into tidal wetlands. Camp 5’s restoration will create habitat for threatened species, such as the salt marsh harvest mouse, Ridgway’s rail, and Chinook salmon, while also improving water quality, buffering against sea-level rise, and advancing climate resilience in the North Bay. Following restoration, Camp 5 will be eligible to become an addition to the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
